Saturday Night’s Main Event Review (5/24/2025)
May 31, 2025Last Saturday night was another Saturday Night’s Main Event from Tampa, and it wasn’t the best or worst outing, but it gave us some good matches and surprise returns that make the lead-up to Money in the Bank very interesting. So here are the good, the bad, and the final takes I had from the Saturday special.
The Good
Cody Rhodes’ return to help Jey Uso at the end of the main event title match against Logan Paul provided a genuine surprise moment that salvaged the main event and set up a main event tag match at Money in the Bank with Rhodes & Uso against John Cena & Logan Paul.

The opening tag team match, featuring Bron Breakker and Seth Rollins against CM Punk and Sami Zayn, delivered a good tag team match. While not being a “five-star banger”, it served its purpose of advancing multiple storylines, including the return and integration of Bronson Reed into Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman’s faction.

The Steel Cage Match between Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest showcased two great performers delivering a solid cage match. McIntyre’s post-match refusal of medical attention added character depth, feeling like a turn as the crowd got behind McIntyre and possibly turned on Priest.

The Disappointing
The show’s biggest misstep was featuring John Cena and R-Truth. The quick victory over R-Truth felt like a wasted match in this current heel run for Cena. The match lacked the build-up to make it enjoyable, but Ron Cena certainly made up for it and will be a part of this run from now on, I feel, which is going to be fun.

The Women’s US Title match between Zelina Vega and Chelsea Green was a bit of a mess, including a botched 619 attempt that injured Green. The match struggled to maintain the crowd’s engagement. It highlighted the uphill battle with getting Zelina Vega as the women’s US champion, especially with Giulia being recently called up, who feels like she should be the next women’s US champion.

Final Take
Saturday Night’s Main Event succeeded in its primary goal with another good TV special. The Cody Rhodes return and the setup for Money in the Bank feuds give the show some much-needed interest.
However, the event also highlighted the recent rumblings or concerns that the creative is getting stale, which fans want to get invested in. Hopefully, with Money in the Bank coming up, along with the Evolution all-women’s show coming back (Finally) and the Great American Bash being announced to take place in Atlanta, it should be the proper fix to get us to the two-night SummerSlam show this year.
