2024 AEW Full Gear Predictions

AEW Full Gear starts in a few hours, and while I have not been tapped into the buildup for this show, here are my predictions for tonight’s PPV. I hope something good will come from it.

AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley (Champion) vs. Orange Cassidy

Winner: Jon Moxley retains

Anything involving Orange Cassidy is an immediate hard pass for me because you know why SMH. This Moxley and Death Riders thing hasn’t been any better, so considering this will be the card’s main event, it is pretty telling and potentially horrible. The never-ending quest to make Orange Cassidy their resident John Cena/Star face will continue to hurt whatever potential AEW hopes to have, the match will not be a must-see but I will take Moxley to retain the title to continue whatever is going to come to a head at World’s End at the end of this year.

Bobby Lashley vs. Swerve Strickland

Winner: Bobby Lashley

Lashley vs. Swerve could be one of the few matches that could make this PPV tolerable. This feud has been perhaps the lone bright spot on AEW TV, which is deserving of both wrestlers. Swerve is close to bulletproof at the moment, and Lashley, with the Hurt Syndicate, needs to keep this momentum going, so I am going with the Almighty to come out victorious in maybe the match of the night.

Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher

Winner: Kyle Fletcher

Kyle Fletcher and Will Ospreay face off tonight, which I’m sure will set the IWC and AEW faithful on fire, calling it another epic banger. The match will probably be predictable, which is not a dig, just a fair observation, but I am going with Fletcher to win here with the help of Don Callis and the family to potentially keep this thing going into 2025.

TBS Championship: Mercedes Mone (Champion) vs. Kris Statlander

Winner:  Kris Statlander #AndNew       

The TBS title match will hopefully end what has been an underwhelming, possibly complete rejection of the Mercedes Mone experience. Whatever bad mojo has now hit Kamille, who can be a big deal for this very poor women’s division, Statlander can be the needed change for this division and the TBS title, so I am calling for the upset with Statlander beating the CEO to become the new TBS champion.

TNT Championship: Jack Perry (Champion) vs. Daniel Garcia

Winner: Daniel Garcia #AndNew

Like the TBS title, the TNT title is another one of the many belts in AEW that needs a change. Jack Perry as champion of anything is just plain awful sorry not sorry, while the scapegoat thing works to a certain extent it is not getting over and helping AEW. Daniel Garcia, even with this rebrand, still is lukewarm. Still, he as TNT champion could set up some interesting matches with better contenders like Takeshita, Hobbs, Fletcher, Ricochet, or someone else, so I am picking Garcia to win this match and put this scapegoat run to rest.

AEW Tag Team Championship: Private Party (Champions) vs. The Outrunners vs. House of Black vs. The Acclaimed

Winner: Private Party retains

There will be another multi-person or team match here for the AEW tag team titles. The match is going to be chaotic as usual, and I can’t see any scenario where newly crowned champions Private Party lose in their first PPV title defense, so I’m going with Private Party to retain their championship.

MJF vs. Roderick Strong

Winner: MJF

MJF returns to Full Gear to face Roderick Strong, which will undoubtedly be an excellent match. I hoped this Adam Cole/MJF situation was done with, but it is picking up, which I hope can be something good in the future. However, MJF is untouchable, especially in this current landscape of AEW, so MJF wins the match here, and we will see how MJF ends in 2024.

Jay White vs. “Hangman” Adam Page

Winner: Jay White

The last match here is Jay White against Adam Page, that could be a surprisingly good match tonight considering both men involved. “Unhinged” Adam Page is sort of meh to be honest, where he just wants to hurt his opponents and not win will once again come back to bite him. So, I’m going with Jay White to win and hopefully, this may be the thing to relaunch or redo something for the Switchblade.

My review probably came off very negatively, but let’s be honest. AEW TV hasn’t set the world on fire, which makes it hard to be upbeat about this show. I am hoping that a couple of matches will deliver or maybe overdeliver to make up for some potentially bad matches that will merit some strong backlash. I will again exercise my limited optimism with AEW, and tonight’s event will have something suitable.
