Right Hook Weekly Review (7/15/24 to 7/19/24)

Monday Night Raw (7/15/24)
The Rhea/Dom/Liv segment was good, nice to have Mami back on TV. Dom is ideal in this spot and this the most I have liked Liv Morgan ever simply good stuff by her. The stuff at the end of Dom’s match just added intrigue for Summerslam.

Damian Priest and Gunther’s face off was incredible! Some deep cuts for sure but Priest stepped up big time and certainly made clear he is a main event guy and champion. Drew McIntyre losing his grip again to remain suspended is great, he is doing some amazing stuff in this feud with Punk. This match is going to be insane.

The video tape interview with Eric Rowan talking about losses in his life was what I have been waiting for! My favorite part of Raw, hopefully the other members of the Wyatt Sicks will do something similar because this is what the group needs and try to steer away from supernatural stuff a little bit.
Finally, we get Gable with the Creed brothers! About time, them calling out Bo Dallas only for the Wyatt Sicks to come out was good wish they ease up on the smoke now but seeing Bo in the ring as himself gives me hope despite the mild response from the crowd.

The main event for IC title was so good Zayn and Dragunov will never disappoint but Breakker coming out destroying both of them was the best way to end Raw with Bron standing tall, give us this match at Summerslam please.

NXT (7/16/24)
Starting the show with Gallus vs. The Rascalz was fun, Trey Miguel is going to be must watch television if this collaboration continues, hopefully the rascalz are injected in the tag division ASAP to freshen it up and become champions. Joe Hendry makes an appearance during the match, clearly there is some plan with him but needs more than this to decide whether he is something or just the flavor of the IWC at the moment.

Je’Von Evans vs. Brooks Jensen was fine, not ready to give a take either way on Jensen.  Evans feels like NXT’s answer to Will Ospreay on Wednesdays which I can see but is unfair since he is nineteen and has time to evolve from just another exciting viral highflyer. Roxanne Perez vs. Thea Hail at great American bash will be ok but hopefully it leads us to Perez vs. Guila or Stephanie Vaquer next. This Wendy Choo stuff is horrible always has been, NXT does not need an answer to Orange Cassidy in AEW.

Oba Femi vs. Duke Hudson in the main event was fine, just repeating myself when I say Oba Femi is a star in the making and cannot wait to see who his next challenger will be.

AEW Dynamite (7/17/24)
This week’s Dynamite was episode 250 so having MJF vs. Will Ospreay for the international title for the first hour. Both guys delivered as they often do but is refreshing to have heel MJF back in the ring on TV. The end of this match was fine, MJF using his Dynamite diamond ring to get win with seconds left on the clock was good but interesting way to kick this milestone show off.

Mercedes Mone match against Nyla Rose was ok considering it could be worse, Mariah May ‘s promo was shockingly good, setting the match up with Toni Storm pretty well that people could get into compared to the TBS title situation.

Swerve vs. Okada was to be expected, I do not know what has happened to Okada since signing with AEW, but it is disappointing. Swerve wins by DQ where some post-match chaos happened when the groups involved in the blood and guts match coming up starting brawling when Darby Allin comes from the rafters like his mentor Sting and the chaos continued to end the show.

Friday Night Smackdown (7/19/24)
Cody opening the show with A-Town Down Under interrupting him was ok, acknowledging Terrance Crawford and having him hand Rhodes the chair was nice and set up the main the event later but nice to see Cody be aggressive considering what happened to Orton recently because of Solo’s Bloodline.

Andrade vs. Carmelo Hayes was a fun match which was not surprising but certainly is a pick me up on Fridays where Smackdown can be a little paint by the numbers, the chemistry is something good wish it was for the IC or US title for something a little extra.

The side-by-side interview with Bayley and Nia Jax was fine, Bayley is one of my favorites and she did a lot here to make her match at Summerslam a little interesting compared to what is happening on Raw. Her reign has been fine but certainly underwhelming for no fault of her own, even if the cash in happens at Summerslam the matchup between her and Stratton will be thing to spice up the women’s title scene on Friday nights.

LA Knight and Logan Paul in ring segment was good both guys just deliver the goods and cannot wait for the match where hopefully Knight finally wins some kind of gold, Logan Paul is incredible considering how he started just a couple of years ago but has it already.

Cody Rhodes & Kevin Owens vs. A-Town Down Under was all right man I feel for Austin Theory be can so much more, but Solo’s Bloodline attack Rhodes again who tries to fight them off but couldn’t as they put Rhodes through the announce table and crushed Owens throat with a steel chair where Solo’s Bloodline once again stood tall to end Smackdown.
