WWE Backlash (France) Review

WWE Backlash (France) Review

May 9, 2024 0 By Right Hook Ray

Saturday afternoon was WWE’s Backlash in France and was a good show so here are my takes from the event.  Let me just say this at the top * That French crowd was absolutely incredible, infectious to see and without question the MVP of this show*

Kevin Owens & Randy Orton vs. The New Bloodline (Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga)

At the start the crowd singing voices was incredible, as far the match it was a chaotic type of tag match not much to say but a solid showcase for Tama Tonga. But the newest member of this bloodline was not Jacob Fatu but instead Tanga Loa. Him coming to WWE is exciting and cannot wait to see G.O.D. on a big North American stage! The New Bloodline has this vicious feel to it, and I am here for it.

WWE Women’s Championship: Bayley vs. Naomi vs. Tiffany Stratton
All three women are insanely beautiful sorry have to address that (Bayley being #1) but that Bayley song throughout her match is incredible every time the crowd sings it on these international shows. Bayley is the most complete wrestler out of the famed four horse women, being unbiased and objective. Hopefully, we get Bayley vs. Stratton down the road there is some good chemistry there, and Naomi was solid as always.

World Heavyweight Championship: Damian Priest vs. Jey Uso
The Crowd for Jey Uso’s entrance was two words … HOLY SHIT! Definitely a vibe, Damian Priest new entrance makes him feel like a final boss of sorts. Solid match overall, this could go on until June or July if that is the direction. The interaction at the end teasing a potential match up with Finn Balor who deserves to be in the main event/title picture again will be such a good match. But Priest wanting to do it on his own might hurt his cause in the end but not ready for Judgement Day to be done.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship: The Kabuki Warriors vs. Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill
Right away I wonder why can’t Asuka & Kairi Sane be themselves and not these goody caricatures? Just frustrating while on the flipside Bianca and Jade looked like a billion-dollar superhero team.  Asuka is so good and deserves better than this, the match was alot longer than I expected but havening Bianca and Jade being the Women’s tag team champions will be great for business.

WWE Undisputed Championship: AJ Styles vs. Cody Rhodes
Again, the crowd for Cody’s entrance was unbelievable and the noise in the arena making the camera shake during AJ Styles introduction was the magic I often speak of when it comes to wrestling, absolutely insane moments.  Whatever the song the crowd sang for AJ Styles was catchy and awesome. Overall, just a banger match would not expect less from these two and hopefully continues at least until Money in the Bank but was good first title defense for Cody and set the tone for his title reign.

Backlash was a reminder that these international PPVs that haven’t had an event in ages are going to have this crazed energy that we saw in Lyon this weekend which is great for WWE and as far as the north American crowd we may need to step our game up or the international crowds will keep upstaging us just saying (laughs)
