What’s Next For NXT?

With more cuts coming down from higher ups in WWE this last round of cuts target their “Third” or “Development” brand NXT last Friday has raised a major question of what’s to come for the black and gold brand that hardcore or “smart” wrestling fans have become to love over these past few years?

Well for starters there’s a clear disconnect between the old guard of Vince McMahon and his old reliable “Yes men” in Bruce Prichard and John Laurinaitis versus Triple H and Shawn Michaels. This disconnect is a screaming red flag of what vision the WWE is going to be and who they view and present as superstars.

McMahon and company are still stuck in the old ways of big strong “Fill in an 8×10” type of guy versus Triple H and HBK’s vision of good PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING AND WRESTLERS. Also, there is a clear sign of jealousy of Triple H’s success with the NXT brand and the buzz over how good it is compared to Vince McMahon and his 2 established shows in RAW and Smackdown. Has probably created some professional jealousy driving these drastic changes.

According to Dave Meltzer who personally I don’t totally agree with because he’s on the AEW payroll (Sorry AEW Stans and employees just own it already) but the vision is to be developmental brand that promotes young, fresh talent and build from scratch compared to the current model of getting the next tier of future superstars from various independent and international promotions who deliver in the ring and not always visually.

Also the idea that AEW defeated NXT in the “Wednesday Night War” is bit of stretch but AEE providing the alternative (whether it’s good or not) is what may have trigger this but is NOT the big reason why, the big reason why is within the company and it’s possibly pissing contest.

So, what happens to the established NXT superstars like Samoa Joe, Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano and Adam Cole and others? The best bet is they will be a part of the draft coming up and hopefully used properly on RAW or Smackdown OR unfortunately let go if there’s nothing for them creatively or otherwise which would be a massive punch in the gut to WWE’s future and a great gain for AEW, NJPW and other promotions.

These cuts, changes in direction of the NXT brand  will effect the popularity of the brand that has gained momentum throughout these last 5 years or so but hopefully this will be something redeemable because it will not match the great buzz and excitement it’s given over these past 5 years.

And if this fails this needs to be a screaming demand for Vince McMahon to truly step the hell back from the product for his potential stubbornness could do dramatic damage to it’s future all to satisfy his possibly bruised ego and cash in on looming huge sale of WWE which you must ask, is it worth? The answer should be absolutely not.
