Right Hook Weekly Review (4/15/2024 to 4/19/2024)

April 21, 2024 0 By Right Hook Ray

Another week of pro wrestling is almost over with AEW Dynasty happening tonight (predictions dropping today also) so here are some of takes from all the show this week starting with Monday night Raw to Friday night Smackdown.

Monday Night Raw

  • Rhea Ripley coming out the relinquish the women’s world championship due to injury setting up a battle royal next Monday to be the champion but Liv Morgan coming out taunting Ripley certainly will keep this feud going but I don’t know if it will work despite Morgan’s popularity, but we will see.
  • Sheamus made his return with his original theme, but the IWC wasn’t kind to his appearance, but I expect Sheamus to get back into the title picture specifically the intercontinental title.
  • Triple H and Adam Pearce present Awesome Truth with the new world tag team championships, certainly keeping that “Big Gold” look and theme for the titles on Raw.
  • Cody Rhodes comes out to the classic Montreal “Ole” chants but thanks Seth Rollins for having his back at Wrestlemania, mentions the Rock and bloodline in its current state then calls out Jey Uso to say Raw is his show and have his back against Finn Balor but Jey Uso said he has to do it on his own then that match was next.
  • Balor vs. Uso was a great match where Uso came out victorious getting the momentum as the man on Monday nights. Jey Uso goes through the crowd and concourse to go outside where Sami Zayn is getting hyped up for his fight in his hometown as IC champion then Zayn enters the arena for his match where the home crowd made his entrance special.
  • The main event between Sami Zayn and Chad Gable for the intercontinental title was incredible wouldn’t have expect less from these two wrestlers, Zayn wins and retains the title leaving Gable distraught.

Zayn celebrates with his family only for Gable to surprise German Suplex Zayn and then put the ankle lock on Zayn multiple times showing his turn that hopefully leads to him leaving Alpha Academy to make his version of Team Angle but with the Creed Brothers which would be good for them.

NXT 4/16/2024

  • Noam Dar had an impressive match against Dijak reminding us of what Dar can do when given the opportunity. Ilja Dragunov was told by Ava Raine he would be in action, but Ilja could pick his opponent where he makes it an open challenge.
  • Lola Vice beat the returning Sol Ruca when after the match Natayla calls out Vice to match in two week an NXT Underground Match, which I like them giving this another type of match another shot with Natayla involved.
  • Dragunov came out issued the open challenge when the locker room ran out only for new young star Je’Von Evans to accept the challenge. The match was good and was certainly a star making match and performance for Evans who lost to champion Dragunov but earned his respect.
  • The main event steel cage match between Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes was a fine match, nothing particular stood out but Williams came out victorious leading into the title match against Dragunov in two weeks but hopefully isn’t the end between him and Hayes.

AEW Dynamite

  • The go-home show for the Dynasty PPV was pretty standard for AEW, Jon Moxley starts the show as the new IWGP world heavyweight champion where he gave another yet familiar AEW rah-rah speech while challenging the Don Calis Family setting up a match with Powerhouse Hobbs next week that should be good but have my doubts of that actually happening.
  • Mercedes Mone’s promo was not the best but dares anyone to challenge her to a match at Double or Nothing which I would guess would be for the TBS title against Julia Hart or Willow Nightingale depends on what happens tonight at Dynasty.
  • Taz sets up an in-ring chat with Jericho and Hook where Jericho continued to try to and “guide” Hook but pushes Taz down where Hook gets in Jericho’s face and says “Anytime, anywhere” that will apparently be tonight on PPV. Hopefully, this will be time for Jericho to finally go away for awhile since he is the worst he has ever been.
  • Samoa Joe has an interview with Renee Paquette that led to a confrontation with Swerve Strickland who foot stomp security to get face to face with Joe for what hopefully will be a great match at Dynasty where Swerve finally wins.
  • Will Ospreay vs. Claudio Castagnoli was the main event, which was a good match where Ospreay won when Bryan Danielson comes out to stare him down to set up something for their match on Sunday, Dynasty will have some good matches I’m sure but expect it to be very paint by numbers for how AEW does things.

Friday Night Smackdown

  • LA Knight (Yeah!) versus AJ Styles started the show, where Styles came out victorious of this good match making him the number one contender to challenge Cody Rhodes for the undisputed WWE title at Backlash in France coming up.
  • Heyman is waiting out back for Solo Sikoa who comes out of the car dressed more like a boss asking where Kevin Owens is? when Tama Tonga is behind Heyman leaving us asking “Is this the new Bloodline?” We will see all throughout the show.
  • Triple H and Nick Aldis call out Theory and Waller (A-Town Down Under) to present them with the new WWE tag team championships that looked incredible! Going with the nostalgic WWF title look which I am all for. Following that was a multi- team match to decide who would face A-Town Down Under next who ended up being the Street Profits which should be a fun match.
  • Bayley faced Naomi for the first title match, the match itself was solid and going along when it was suddenly TIFFY TIME! Tiffany Stratton attacks both Bayley and Naomi making the match a no-contest, Stratton hits that beautiful moonsault on both of them stood victorious hopefully leading up to triple threat between these 3 awesome ladies.

  • Solo and Heyman were next where Heyman is absolutely scared of Solo and his actions before they come out where there was a strong “We Want Roman” pissed off Solo who took the mic from Heyman. Sikoa goes on to tell us he had to lose a brother to find a new one his MFT Tama Tonga, when Kevin Owens appears bloody by Tama Tonga who continues to attack Owens when officials come to help Owen but Tonga and Solo stand in the ring throwing theirs ones up until Owens comes back to fight only to be outmatch by Solo and Tama and the savage attack continues until Nick Aldis and others stop Tama Tonga from hurting Owens with help from Sikoa.

  • Backstage moments later Heyman is dragged outside by GM Nick Aldis where he sees a car accident thon, hurt Kevin Owens from Tama Tonga T-boning him, Heyman has no idea what is going on but Aldis threatens the wiseman to get things in order by next week’s draft or bigger consequences will be coming to him if he doesn’t regain control of Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga.
