NXT Heatwave 2024 Review

NXT Heatwave was the other show to close out WWE’s big weekend in the north, where there were a couple of good matches and performances that shaped what the rest of the summer for the black and gold brand. Well, here are my ratings for matches on Sunday night.

Axiom & Nathan Frazer vs. Chase U (NXT Tag Team Championship)

The tag title was what it is was, I know Chase U is over with the crowd but just does not work for me. Axiom and Nathan Frazer title reign has been bland but hopefully there is a challenging team coming to give that title and division some life.

Match rating: 3/10

Kelani Jordan vs. Sol Ruca (NXT Women’s North American Championship)

Kelani Jordan vs. Sol Ruca’s was better than I expected, the hypocrisy and idiocy expressed from wrestling biggest embarrassment Dave Meltzer saying this match was a “Choreographed dance routine” while he claims Will Ospreay is the best in the world and AEW matches are amazing is simply laughable. But the match that was fine and will get better as they get more time in the ring.

Oba Femi vs. Wes Lee (NXT Men’s North American Championship)

The match of the night for me of course was Oba Femi and Wes Lee for the men’s North American title was great! The perfect combination of style, size, look really makes this something we need to see more of. Oba Femi continues to amaze me and is absolutely box office.

Roxanne Perez vs. Lola Vice (NXT Women’s Championship)

Roxanne Perez vs. Lola Vice was a fine match; Perez continues string series of good title defenses since regaining her title back in April. Vice had a good outing who I am sure will get another shot at Perez but with this NXT/TNA collaboration who knows if that will be right away.

Match Rating: 7/10

Trick Williams vs. Je’Von Evans vs. Shawn Spears vs. Ethan Page (NXT Championship)

The main event overdelivered just a good multi person match. Je’Von Evans won me over and maybe a big star for that NXT brand especially with the changes coming in the fall, while Trick Williams was a good fighting champion who will be champion again. But this was solid match with the ending especially with the HBK call back where Ethan Page wins the title but, as the show goes off a shot of current fan sensation Joe Hendry appeared that may be a sign we will see more of him on NXT TV.
