January 24th Saturday Night’s Main Event Review
January 29, 2026The first SNME of 2026 didn’t just start, it exploded. The opening contest between Cody Rhodes and Jacob Fatu was less of a wrestling match and more of an all-out chaotic brawl. The two tore through the arena, destroying everything and everyone in their path.

The carnage reached its peak when the Undisputed Champion, Drew McIntyre, made his presence felt. McIntyre put both Rhodes and Fatu through tables, leaving the “Scottish Warrior” standing tall to set the tone for the evening.

Women’s Tag Titles: RHIYO Retains
The Women’s Tag Team Title match offered a fascinating look at the current state of the division. While the match was great, the individual performances stood out: Iyo Sky continues to make a case for being the best female wrestler on the planet, and Roxanne Perez looks poised for a massive 2026.

The drama spiked when Roxanne nearly secured the win with a Pop-Rox for a heart-stopping two-and-a-half count. Just as it looked like RHIYO was in trouble, when Raquel Rodriguez attempted to interfere, but Stephanie Vaquer quickly evened the odds. In the shuffle, Liv Morgan tried to catch Sky off guard, only for Rhea Ripley to secure a blind tag and deliver a devastating Riptide to retain the gold.

RHR Sidebar: Those Riyadh tourist videos trying to paint Saudi Arabia as a “normal” vacation spot are pure insanity. We’re living in an upside-down universe where nothing is surprising anymore. At the end of the day, London needs to get a WrestleMania before Saudi Arabia gets one otherwise, I might really have to reevaluate some things.
Styles and Nakamura: A Bittersweet Masterclass
There was a heavy sense of nostalgia and finality surrounding AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura. It is disheartening to think this might be their final encounter, especially considering how much more could have been done with this pairing on the main roster over the last decade.

This was a true throwback to their NJPW days stiff and high stakes. While there may have been a few too many near-falls for some, the match felt “long” in the best way possible. As part of AJ’s retirement tour, he proved he’s still got it. I just hope this tour doesn’t end next weekend in Saudi; he deserves a massive stage and a proper send-off on American soil. Styles ultimately secured the win with a Phenomenal Forearm followed by a Styles Clash. The post-match moment of respect between these two icons was a refreshing change of pace for the WWE.

The Main Event: The Montreal Hero and the Next Gen
The main event Fatal 4-Way determined who will face Drew McIntyre at the Royal Rumble. The atmosphere was legendary, Sami Zayn in Montreal never gets old. The crowd reaction rivaled his iconic clash with Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber two years ago.

Trick Williams proved he is already a superstar just weeks into his main roster run. I love it, the guy looked beyond ready for the spotlight. Randy Orton and Damian Priest provided the veteran backbone for a very good match. While Sami Zayn is clearly the focal point for the coming year.

The question remains: Could Sami pull off something shocking at the first-ever overseas Royal Rumble next week? Regardless of the title, Sami is a pivotal piece of the puzzle as we enter the most wonderful time of the year: WrestleMania Season.

Final Verdict
This was a very good Saturday Night’s Main Event to kick the year off. If the booking stays this interesting, 2026 could be a good year for the WWE.
